What is GST?
GST stands for Goods and Services Tax. It is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on supply of goods and services in India, replacing VAT, service tax, excise duty, and octroi from July 1, 2017. GST Slabs in India 2024

How to Calculate GST
GST Exclusive (add GST to base price): GST Amount = Original Price x GST Rate / 100. Total = Original + GST. Example: Rs 1000 at 18% = Rs 180 GST, total Rs 1180.
GST Inclusive (remove GST from total): Original Price = Total x 100 / (100 + GST Rate). GST = Total minus Original. Example: Rs 1180 total at 18% = Original Rs 1000, GST Rs 180.
CGST, SGST and IGST
CGST is collected by central government on intra-state transactions. SGST is collected by state government on intra-state transactions. IGST is collected by central government on inter-state transactions. For 18% GST intra-state: CGST = 9%, SGST = 9%. For inter-state: IGST = 18%.

A valid GST invoice must include: supplier name, address and GSTIN, invoice number and date, buyer GSTIN for B2B, HSN or SAC code, description of goods or services, quantity, unit price, total value, GST rate, CGST and SGST amounts, and total invoice amount.
